Diffusional Atomic-Ordering Kinetics of Close-Packed Solid Solutions: Models for L12 and D019 Phases

چکیده
1. Introduction Ordering in solid solutions is a topic of growing technological and scientific interest within the field of material science. This is because of the advantageous high temperature and corrosion properties of alloys which are linked to the effect of long-range ordering [1]. Long-range order kinetics is one of the diffusion processes occurring within the atomic ranges. X-ray diffraction technique is the most convenient experimental instrument to provide us detailed information on this process. There are also different theoretical methods for this one. One of the models is based on the Onsager-type microscopic-diffusion equation [1].

Microstructure of Al3Sc with ternary rare-earth additions
The microstructure of ternary L12-Al3(Sc1 yREy) intermetallics, where RE is one of the rare-earth elements selected from five light (La, Ce, Nd, Sm or Eu) or two heavy lanthanoids (Yb or Lu), was investigated as a function of RE concentration for 0.02 y 0.75. Alloys with light RE show two phases: L12-Al3(Sc,RE) and D019-Al3(RE,Sc) (or C11b-Al4(Eu,Sc)). Alloys with heavy RE exhibit a single L12A...

The microstructure of binary Al3Sc and ternary Al3(Sc1−yXy), where X is one of the transition metals from Group IIIA (Y), IVA (Ti, Zr or Hf) or VA (V, Nb or Ta), was investigated as a function of alloying element concentration for 0.1 y 0.75. Alloys with Group IIIA and IVA additions exhibited a single L12 solid-solution phase with some Kirkendall porosity. At the highest concentration studied, ...

The microstructure of ternary Al3(Sc1-yREy) intermetallic compounds (where RE is one of the rare-earth elements La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Eu, Yb or Lu), was investigated as a function of RE concentration for 0<y≤0.75. Alloys with La, Ce, Nd, Sm or Eu additions consist of a L12 phase containing a dendritic second phase with D019 (La, Ce, Nd, Sm) or C11b (Eu) structure. Alloys with Yb or Lu additions show ...
متن کاملInterplay of ordering and spinodal decomposition in the formation of ordered precipitates in binary fcc alloys: Role of second nearest-neighbor interactions
In this paper, the possible interaction of ordering and phase separation tendencies in the formation of an ordered precipitate phase (A3B/L12) within a binary supersaturated fcc solid solution is investigated using computational thermodynamics based on a generalized Bragg–Williams model incorporating first and second nearest-neighbor interactions. The formulation synthesizes and expands upon pr...

Phase equilibria of the solid phases including the magnetic and martensitic transformation temperatures in the CoMo system were investigated using two-phase alloys, the diffusion couple technique, differential scanning calorimetry, and vibrating sample magnetometry. Furthermore, ab initio calculations of D019-Co3Mo and several fcc-base ordered structures, including metastable compounds, were c...
